What Roo ate this week - BLW inspiration post 2

Yum
Baby-led weaning is very much taking over at the moment.  Although I think of it as lazy weaning, at the moment, planning food for the week seems to be a lot more complex than ever before.  D being on holiday has added an extra layer of complexity.  This first photo features sweetcorn and courgette fritters made into a heart shape, green beans - perfect finger food, and new potatoes which are good for getting down the hatch.

Porridge pancakes for breakfast are fantastic. I never perfected this with D but they are actually so easy. I fill the bottom of a bowl with porridge oats and then milk just to cover. One minute in the microwave and leave it to stand for a couple of minutes before you touch it. If you move it too quickly it will break up. Once it has cooled, it should pretty much slide out of the bowl. I have learned that I need to only give Roo half of the pancake at once or risk the whole thing falling on the floor. I'm going to try to add some flavourings to the pancakes next and see how she takes to them.

This is a messy picture - sometimes getting the food into Roo as quickly as possible is more important than taking pictures of it. Mr K hates egg, so it was always one of those foods that we weren't sure about. Thankfully, Roo seems to be quite happy with omelettes so far. I served it with a cuboid of cheese because I was interested to see how she dealt with it. She pretty much ignored it. There's also a slither of roasted squash which sometimes is the favourite thing on the table and other days is entirely ignored.

We were sent some Kiddylicous wafers to try. Here are some of the banana ones that didn't quite survive the transit. Kiddylicious wafers have less sugar than rusks which is in their favour but I think the fact that they have sugar at all means that they will be a rarity until Roo is older.   We love Kiddylicious in this house - D still likes the fruit wriggles at nearly 5 and I love how all of the products can be easily thrown into a bag for a snack anywhere.  Roo wasn't very sure of these on this occasion but it was pretty early in our weaning journey.  The pasta here was tossed with a little bit of unsalted butter.

This received a lot of attention when I posted it but I thought it was one of those things that everyone knew about. Pizza crumpets are such a good tea choice for D. He probably has them a couple of times a fortnight and he can pretty much make them himself now. Toast your crumpet, spread with tomato purèe and grated cheese and put under a hot grill.  Raspberries have been a bit of a favourite here.  Along with cherry tomatoes halved!

Macaroni cheese with cauliflower. Roo has had this a couple of times and both times she's really got stuck in. The roux is such a good sauce as it sticks well to the pasta.... and there are those raspberries again!

I don't think I really went with noodles as an early food for D - or even that I reached for it as an option for some time but he loves them so much. He really enjoyed having noodles for tea one day with Roo. Here it's served with baby corn which is the ideal shape and size for small fists and mange tout. Just be careful to remove strings from mange tout. I put about half a teaspoon of low salt soy sauce in this to add flavour but I'm not sure she really needed it.
